just got the most recent Smacked Apple on tap...dealing with some foaming issues, but it's drinkable! Smicky's is nearly gone, but Keystone Common is waiting to take its place...and Festbier V2 is getting kegged up in the near future as well. Looking to keep re-using the Cali Lager yeast, so I have a SA Alpine Spring inspired beer and a wannabe Munich Helles. Look for these guys in the not to distant f
got 2, yes TWO brews happening today. never did 2 all grain batches at one go, so I figured: weather is crappy, I don't feel all that great...double brew session! I am feeling a little better now (since I am typing this after pitching the yeast for /a-lil-what-what.html the first brew of the day) ;-)
even though I have the ingredients for 2 more brews, I sadly have not had the time nor the free fermenter space (thanks to another go 'round of Smacked Apple). but the plan is to either squeeze them in next weekend or wait until after Easter. fortuantely, the LBBP brews are flowing freely in the form of the Dunkle, Smicky's, Buzzer Beater, and there are still a few Premium Bitter bottles chilling in the fridge...
the 2 on the left are Smicky's, and the other 2 are Buzzer Beater. the tasting set is from the Rogue Public House in San Francisco thanks to a
finally cleaned the kegerator draft lines out with PBW...the amount of crud that was flushed out was surprising to say the least! gonna have to do this more often. pulled a sample of Smicky's and Buzzer Beater, and they are both a few more days away from being "ready", but each showed promise. also popped a bottle of the Dunkleweizen, and it was quite good. pics and notes to come for all of these in the not too distant future
the 1st batch of Smacked Apple is no more, as the keg was kicked last night. It took the wife and I by surprise, and we were honestly a little bummed out that it is gone. it is being made again in the VERY near future, and the only question that remains: should we keg it or try bottling? I would like to try to bottle it...just to see what (if any) difference is perceived. the carb level is the only thing that is a question, and bottle bombs are another potential hazard.
the result of this keg going: Smicky's is now carbing away! Festbier is no more...RIP! it was decent, but I am looking forward to a tweaked rebrew of that beer in a few months (try to actually have it for O-fest this time!). the Buzzer Beater APA took its place on the gas, so that should be ready to rock in about a week. I think I will
One of the hardest things about home brewing is the patience required to allow the beer to fully come together. You spend the time crafting a recipe, brewing, controlling the fermentation, bottling/kegging...it all takes time. then on top of that, you need to WAIT for weeks for proper carbonation and conditioning to occur. it is a weird brand of personal torture to know that a (potnentially) delicious beer is sitting RIGHT THERE...and you can't touch it. and it isn't like I don't have a bunch of other stuff on hand to drink...it is wanting what I can't have!
Fortunately, I think I just worked it out right there. seeing the words, hearing them, and knowing that I have enough homebrew to wait as long as I had intended to...okay dunkleweizen, you are still safe to warm condition for a few more days! and even then, I think I'll only put a couple bottle in the fridge and allow the rest to continue doing their thing. that being the home brew magic Thanks to a busy start to the new year, there are 3 batches of LBBP deliciousness just waiting for their time to shine! the Dunkleweizen is all bottled up, and Smicky's and Buzzer Beater are sitting in kegs. meanwhile, Smacked Apple and Festbier are still going strong in the kegerator...
