Before starting my adventure into extra malts and adding more hops, I had wanted to do one more Mr Beer basic kit to make sure that my techniques were as sound as they could be brewing on a stove top with my two little helpers (and the inspirations behind my beer's name) poking their little pink noses around everything. At this point I had yet to taste the WCPA, but since it was early October 2009 at this point, I really wanted to start up my pipeline! (a pipeline being a steady flow of beers in different stages that would ensure that there will always be homebrew available at my house!)
So having recently been in Germany for some friends' wedding, I was stoked to attempt to brew up my own weissbier. Here is the Mr Beer description of Whispering Wheat Weizenbier:
This refill has all the ingredients you need to make a pale golden beer with a fruity, light and mild flavor. This is a favorite beer of Southern Germany. Delicate wheat malt conveys a sense of tranquility, but add a slice of lemon and this refreshing lively brew will surprise you. I would like to stress LIGHT and MILD with this particular brew. In my opinion, "good" would not be another adjective to throw into the mix. After having a few bottles, I tried adding lemon and orange slices to my glass, and while they helped to mask the thin and soapy sensation in my mouth, they certainly did not make this beer "lively". Having been to Southern Germany myself, I can 100% guarantee this would not be a favorite there. Erdinger, Weihenstephaner, Paulaner...now those are some Bavarian Weissbier favorites!
